One of the most needed items by Ottawa’s homeless is a pair of warm socks. Carlingwood’s food court will once again host the Socks from Santa tree. Decorated with donation tags and acting as the collection zone for new warm socks the tree is symbol of hope for Ottawa’s homeless.
All socks collected will be donated to the Shepherds of Good Hope, The Ottawa Mission, The YMCA/YWCA and Cornerstone Housing for Women.
Each year Bell Media’s Toy Mountain collects new toys for the Salvation Army who distributes them to families in need of Christmas cheer.
Carlingwood will once again be a customer donation drop off centre by offering a storefront donation box close to Santa’s woodland to help build a mountain of toys.
Anne DeBrisay has had to postpone signing copies of her book Ottawa Cooks at Coles in Carlingwood. Anne is the restaurant reviewer for the Ottawa Citizen. http://www.capitaldining.ca/2016/around-town/ottawa-cooks-revealed
"Forty one ‘cooks’ in these pages, from both sides of the river, have contributed eighty-plus recipes. Some are the star dishes of the restaurants they run. Others are dishes they serve for staff meal, or for a kid’s birthday, or a treasured recipe from the grandmother who taught them to cook. It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to gather these fine chefs in one big beautiful book and I thank them all for the gift of their recipes."
